New housing and debt specialists at Banbury CAB
Do you have a housing problem? Are you being threatened with eviction?
Do you need advice on your tenancy agreement? Are you struggling to pay
your mortgage?
Banbury CAB has appointed two new advisers, Jane Rouse and Stephanie
Lane, who will be offering a comprehensive advice and casework service on
all aspects of housing and debt.
"We are really pleased to be able to offer this new service",
says Anne Reynolds, Bureau Manager. "We are working with Cherwell
District Council and the Legal Services Commission to provide high quality
housing and debt advice to help prevent people losing their homes and
resolve other housing problems. Good housing advice is key, and many
people struggle to pay their rent and mortgage because of other
debts."
Jane and Stephanie will work alongside the existing team of volunteer
advisers and caseworkers, and will deal with queries about eviction
notices, repossession, repairs, homelessness, tenancy problems, and rent
and mortgage arrears. They will also help negotiate with lenders and
landlords, and other creditors.
"It is important to seek advice early when you are threatened with
eviction", says Anne. "Our advice is free and confidential. Lots
of debt agencies charge for their services."
Last year the CAB helped around 5,000 new clients and recorded 11,000
problems.
Referrals to the new service will come via Cherwell District Council
housing department who will refer anyone threatened with homelessness. For
other housing advice, you can contact the CAB on their Advice Line 0844
848 7922, or call into the office in Banbury or Brackley.
