A sponsored fishing competition on Saturday has raised over
£1000 for Banbury CAB.
The event, sponsored by local businesses, took place at Grimsbury Reservoir
for competitors aged between 16 and 25.
Cllr Kieron Mallon, Town Mayor of Banbury, was on hand to present the prizes,
and he congratulated all those who had turned up to take part in the competition
and support their local CAB.
The event was organised by Colin Henson, a volunteer adviser at the CAB.
Colin said: "The day was a real success despite the rain. It was pleasing
to see the friendship displayed by all involved. Judging by the comments I
received after the event, next year’s competition will be an even bigger
success."
The charity will use the funds raised to train additional volunteers as
advisers and increase its capacity to see clients. Currently one third of those
who visit the CAB offices are not seen.
Last year Banbury CAB dealt with almost 12,500 enquiries, including requests
for assistance with employment, debt, consumer and benefit problems.
